As a solo practitioner I have much in common with my clients in that I seek the freedom and flexibility of self-employment. As the single mother of two who is also an artist, I have many roles to play and the flexibility of a solo practice provides me the lifestyle I prefer which mirrors that of the entrepreneurs and inventors that walk through my door. Working from home with minimal staff assistance I am able to keep my overhead low which is keeps my rates low for startups with limited budgets. Being the only lawyer on your case, I will offer continuity in communication that is sometimes lost at larger firms that use more than one lawyer on a case or who may have turnover requiring lost time and keeping everyone up to speed. The down side is that you may not reach me by phone without an appointment, but a text or an email can create an appointment and I aim to get back to clients the same day, with 24 hours max barring special circumstances. On those occasions where I need assistance, I have a network of associates to help me handle matters that may be a bit much for one person. Those cases are rare however and I pride myself of speedy, quality, personalized service to all of my clients.
There are a lot of unwitting potholes inventors and entrepreneurs can fall into and I pride myself in maintaining honest integrity always stating costs up front and not surprising clients with unforeseen costs and fees that were not anticipated after forming the attorney/client relationship. As your attorney in prosecuting your patent or trademark applications, my duty is to you, the client, and you are the source of my business as well as constant inspiration, so I treat that relationship with the utmost respect.
